Setting Up Offsite Backups

The aACE Server Installation Guide includes instructions on setting up backups. However, offsite backups for aACE are highly recommended in the event of catastrophic failure due to server malfunction, equipment theft, or natural disaster, among others.

Our preferred vendor for offsite backups of aACE is CrashPlan, an online backup solution that can be configured to upload a backup of aACE at regular intervals and easily download if one is required. If your system administrator prefers a different vendor there are many available.

Whichever vendor is used it's important to know that the live database files should not be touched during the offsite backup process. What you should do is "backup the backup" using the backup schedule created during the initial setup. If you overwrote the default backup location you should use that file path. If you utilized the default backup location this will be located:

  • On Mac: Macintosh HD/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/Daily
  • On PC: C:/Program Files/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/Daily

To confirm the backup file path you can launch the Admin Console, locate your backup schedule, and view the schedule details:
